Programs: Health, Wellness, and Safety: Building Partnerships
Tell me about the Building Partnerships for Youth project and how 4–H is involved.
Building Partnerships for Youth is a partnership between National 4–H Council and the University of Arizona. The goal of the project is to work to strengthen the capacity of national, state, and local agencies to help schools and organizations implement programs, curricula, and strategies based on positive youth development principals to help young people, ages 9 to 13, develop the motivation to not engage in sexual intercourse. National 4–H Council takes a leadership role in shaping our understanding of positive youth development by considering the underlying causes of problem behaviors and stressing positive outcomes for youth, including competence, confidence, character, connection, and contribution. We believe that positive youth development programming is a developmentally appropriate approach for instillng in youth, ages 9 to 13, the motivation to make healthy choices.
